Dresser to Bar Transformation

The project that you are about to see has to be by far one of my favorite pieces that Nat and I made in 2017.

We were able to transform a dresser into a bar!

I found this dresser and immediately saw how amazing it could look if it was flipped into this great bar. The dresser had amazing bones and was SOLID wood, so….it was very very heavy. Thankfully with the help of my friend, Lori, I was able to transport it back to my house to be beautified.

Nat and I decided that this would be the perfect gift for our mom. She has been looking for a bar for as long as I can remember.

Unfortunately, Nat and I did not have much time to get this project done. We buckled down and transformed this piece in as little as two days! Let me tell you, it was not easy. The first day we spent over 12 hours nonstop sanding, cutting, and building. Although it seems to look simple on the outside, there were a lot of different pieces that we needed to make in order to get it perfect.

Side note: it was freezing that night.

We needed to:

  1. Sand the entire thing down
  2. Take the drawers out and cut pieces of MDF and put it where the bottoms of the drawers were.
  3. Saw off the middle shelf
  4. Cut out pieces of MDF for the bottle holder at the bottom
  5. Saw off the front of the drawer to make it a flip-down shelf
  6. Screw in all the pieces
  7. Paint and stain to our liking
  8. Lastly, give to mom

Only 8 very long steps (don’t underestimate it).

In the end, it was all worth it.
We absolutely love the way it turned out and most importantly so did my mom.

If you want a custom bar like this way send us a message!

Love,
Melanie
